Lost your 482 job? Know your 180 days

If you stop working for your sponsor (resigned, made redundant or the business closed), your visa doesn't end straight away. Under the current conditions you have up to 180 days in a row to: • find a new approved sponsor who lodges a nomination for you, or • apply for a different visa, or • arrange to leave Australia The total across the whole visa is capped at 365 days, so every gap counts. During this time you can work for another employer, which helps pay the bills while you look. Your old employer must tell Home Affairs you have left, so don't assume no one knows. Write down your last day of work and count from there. If your 186 was in progress, get advice quickly: a new employer usually means starting the nomination again.
